The protagonist for my personal project, Dusk! I've been working on his character since 2017 and he's had a very static wardrobe since then until recently! After really kicking myself into gear with creating some serious pieces of concept art for this project, I found that I was having trouble with the old outfit I'd given him. It wasn't practical, it's range of movement for his particular job wouldn't be great (he drives a mech), and it was pretty heavy on symmetrical details all the way down vertically and horizontally. I decided it was time to do a new pass since I've begun exploring creating Dusk in 3D!
I set out some goals for Dusk as a character this time around. I wanted him to more clearly convey the effects his life as a lumberjack and mecha trucker in the north have had on him. He's strong through his whole body, has practical gear that isn't super fancy, and wears a knit sweater that's a signature of his sheep livestocking town.
Further, I wanted to make his primary actions very obvious by highlighting his hands and feet with lighter fur -- his main verbs are entirely oriented around 3D open world platforming and traversal, so having where his feet are placed be clear is important!
I'm hoping to continue to accentuate his character even more as I build out his world, and improve on this design as I build out a demo of the game!
